Announcement: Editor-in-Chief of the Newsweek.pl obliged to publish a correction

The Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union (PSFCU) informs that the District Court in Warsaw, XXV Civil Division, after an examination at the hearing held on September 7, 2020 of a case brought by the PSFCU, obliged the Editor-in-Chief of the Newsweek.pl portal to publish a correction to the press material entitled "Duda's Greenpoint SKOK" published on May 19, 2020 on the Newsweek.pl portal.

Press material entitled "Duda's Greenpoint SKOK" contained numerous libelous and false information undermining the good name of our Credit Union members, employees and volunteers serving on the PSFCU Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee. Therefore, after the Editor-in-Chief of Newsweek.pl refused to publish the correction, the management board of the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union decided to take legal action. PSFCU was represented before the District Court in Warsaw by attorney Dariusz Pluta from the Law Office of Małecki Pluta Dorywalski Wiegner Sp. K.

“We are pleased with the verdict of the District Court in Warsaw and we hope that the Editor-in-Chief of Newsweek.pl portal will comply with it and publish an appropriate correction without undue delay. As the management of the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union, we took legal action, because it is our duty to defend the good name of the institution which has served the Polish-American community with such great success for almost 44 years. We were especially engrossed by the unfounded insinuations about the involvement of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, in the affairs of the Polish community in the United States,” said the PSFCU President/CEO, Bogdan Chmielewski.

At the same time, the District Court ordered the Editor-in-Chief of Newsweek.pl to reimburse the costs of the proceedings. The verdict is not final.
